Charitable Work
The rugs, sourced predominantly in India, are made under stringent controls regarding matters of both quality control and child labour, with Hill & Co playing an active part in supporting local communities in the country through 'Care & Fair' - an organisation that campaigns against illegal child labour in the carpet producing areas of India, Nepal & Pakistan, Hill & co are also proud to fully fund a school near Varanasi catering 350 pupils, as well as funding primary healthcare and tree planting programmes. Here are more details and pictures of these projects - Our School - November 2012-

Had a great day at Khanapur on saturday the 31st of March. Arzoo Hakim, one of our friend's daughter and Jackie (CSR representative of Hill & co) teamed up and taught the youngsters craft work.

We are building a new Science Block. |

After an Indian CARE & FAIR member (Haji Saheb Ali) donated a plot of land for construction, a new building was designed and financed. This school was inaugurated in August 2000. Hill & Co pay the running costs of the school. We decided that this was a better way of donating to CARE AND FAIR than just contributing to a fund as by concentrating our efforts on 1 school we have a focus. We visit the school a few times a year
CARE & FAIR - Carpet Trade Against Child Labour is a professional association of the European carpet trade. It was founded in 1995. Our members are fighting the exploitation a children in the carpet production. They are obliged to pay one percent of the value of imported carpet from India, Nepal and Pakistan into a fund. This fund enables CARE & FAIR to finance the projects.

We feel very strongly against using child labour. Please view our supplier's charter for more information http://www.hillcorugs.com/suppliercharter.asp

Sponsoring Eye Surgery to the local community -

29th October 2009
Taken from a letter recieved today from the President of Ramkrishna Sewashram Hospital -
A big thank you from all of us at Ramkrishna Sewashram Hospital. As you know, health problems of colossal scale always loom large on the society, esp. the rural and semi-urban parts of India and it is often through the generosity of kind-hearted people like your good self that some of these problems are addressed. It is sometimes our privilege to be able to channel help to the right people.
Ramkrishna Sewashram Hospital will continue to hold free eye-camps for several months till the onset of summer season. Post-operation, patients are admitted for one night and they receive free meals. The surgeon examines the operation on the following day and also provides them with the required medicines and sun-glasses.
